Online and telephone counselling

Online and telephone counselling allows you to access your sessions at a time and place that suits you best without having to travel. Research and my own experience working with clients has proven that online counselling is an effective means of accessing therapy.

Even though we aren’t physically in the same room; as your Online or Telephone Counsellor, I can help you to explore how you’re feeling, understand what you are going through and support you to make changes in your life.

I use a secure and safe video calling system which you can access via a simple web link from your laptop, smartphone or other device. I work from a private office space ensuring that similarly to working ‘in person’ you have the time you need in ‘the talking space’ to explore whatever you want to during your counselling sessions.

All video calls are secured with end-to-end encryption to ensure strict privacy, confidentiality and meeting security standards.

There is no need for you to download any apps or software. All you need to do is copy and paste the link I will send you in your booking confirmation email. This will give you access to The Talking Space’s private online waiting room, and I will meet you there at the time of your appointment.

Outdoor therapy

Research shows that taking talking therapy sessions outside and surrounded by nature can be even more beneficial than having therapy inside.

There may be many different reasons for you to choose to take your counselling sessions into the great outdoors.

At The Talking Space I am passionate about the nurturing and therapeutic aspect of working in nature.

Some people feel the four walls of a counselling room or the ‘online space’ is limiting; and tapping into nature and being outside can feel like the best place to hold therapy sessions. Some people even find that problems can feel less overwhelming outside.

What is proven is that being outside has many benefits for everyone, including:

  • Reduction in blood pressure
  • Calming effect on our whole being
  • Improvements with sleeping pattern
  • General sense of relaxation and calm

Working outdoors doesn’t mean you have to go for miles and miles.

We can choose the route that suits you best. Sitting and ‘being’ outside is also an option.

Prior to your first outdoor session I meet with clients online to discuss all details. This will include an initial discussion of your hopes and needs for therapy as well as any risks or limitations as well as appropriate clothing to allow for the unpredictable North East weather.

Rest assured I complete a full risk assessment for all the routes we can take if you do choose to venture outside into nature for your therapy. I have completed specialised first-aid training and am fully insured to work outside.

Indoor Face-to-Face Counselling

Face-to-Face Indoor therapy is provided in Oldmeldrum Business Centre - Office 9.

Due to the ongoing pandemic and restrictions, I have limited availability for face-to-face indoor sessions so please contact me if you are unable to work remotely or outdoors and would prefer to start therapy indoors.

The office space is clean, spacious, comfortable and private.

There is free car parking and the office is fully accessible to wheelchair users.

I adhere to Scottish Government and COSCA guidance in order to keep clients and myself safe.

“The Rewind Technique”

Trauma can impact every area of your life, but it doesn’t have to define you.

Counselling may help you find ways to cope and to find meaning and purpose in your life again.

The Rewind therapy technique was founded and developed in 1991 by Dr. David Muss who was the director of the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinic at Birmingham's BMI hospital.

The Rewind technique is unique because no details are disclosed to the therapist hence the treatment being described as "closure without disclosure". Rewind is suitable for clients suffering from trauma, flashbacks, anxiety, unwanted or intrusive thoughts and traumatic memories.

I am professionally trained and certified by the founder of the International Association for Rewind Trauma Therapy (IARTT) and current research indicates successful treatment and positive outcomes for clients in 85% of cases.

All counselling therapies are priced at £50 per session.

Please note that payment is to be made prior to each session.

Payments can be made via Bank Transfer or online.

Contactless card payments or cash payments can be made in person.

I do not believe personal circumstances should prevent you having counselling so I have allocated lower cost online sessions to individuals on low/no income and to trainee therapists. Please contact me to discuss this further.
